The ‘pioneers of Slovenian shoegaze’ return with their heavily anticipated second full length album titled Loose Contacts / Tense Present!
Following the release of their critically acclaimed debut LP Where If Not Now in 2018, the band experienced an exhilarating couple of years filled with peaks and valleys. They embarked on tour shortly after the release, playing relentlessly in Slovenia and across Europe. During one of these tours, their gear got stolen in Spain. Not being one to quit easily, Haiku Garden launched a successful crowdfunding campaign and were given an enormous amount of support from the local Slovenian music scene. In early 2020 they released a live unplugged album titled Izštekani (on ZKP RTV Slo), which consists of acoustic rearrangaments of their best psychedelic bangers. The time since was then focused on creating what is now known as Loose Contacts / Tense Present.
Loose Contacts / Tense Present was a journey of creative introspection, contemplation, and finally, rediscovery. On this 43 min long sonic joyride, Haiku Garden sound more confident than ever before with a clear, direct sound that punches you in the face and yet manages to stay articulate and refined. This owes to the fact that the recording process was different this time around, with the band recording live takes with a few overdubs and the album being mostly self-produced by guitarists Luka & Klemen.
In contrast to the lucid dreamy soundscapes of Where If Not Now, Loose Contacts / Tense Present is an album that is wide awake and more present in the now. It shows the band in a new light, where the album serves as a medium showcasing the duality of modern day reality. With lyrical themes of ever changing relationships and division, it seeks for answers while remaining hopeful and positive.
Nine songs, which boldly explore diverse noise & pop subgenres of shoegaze, post-punk, kraturock and even acoustic psychedelia, paint a sonically rich picture of a modern world filled with contrast in which the band invites the listener to follow them on their path of (re)discovery.
