Over 15 years into their fruitful career, with four excellent studio albums and fluid kneading of their unique musical reality named post-jazz, Prekmurje’s instrumental wizards are returning with a new creation. While their previous effort Panontikon was characterised by the ethnographic stylisation of soundscapes, the fifth record sees the foursome returning to the form typical of their early years, with a harsher and rawer sound range.
The complex compositions are led by imaginative guitars, while the solid, yet nimble rhythm section envelopes the sound within a contemplative integrative whole, underlined by a quiet melancholic touch. On “nouvi sad”, recorded live in Ljubljana and Gornja Radgona, ŠKM banda evokes a broad palette of emotions and impressions through their peculiar intertwining of genres, flowing from faint romantic sighs to frenetic commotion and ecstatic rage – similar to that restless dream that grips you long after the abrupt awakening of album closer “bejli”.
The album is released on January 24 by KAPA Records and GBTM Records, on CD and digitally on Bandcamp and all streaming platforms.
